Professors and graduate students from the center participated (and in some cases, excelled) in the Anteater Equity Games on May 5. Launched in 2014, the Anteater Equity Games aim to build and sustain an inclusive community. During the games, teams composed of faculty, students and staff worked together to solve seven different challenges. Sarah Gilliland contributed to her team’s overall high score and silver medal finish (see photo) and Huy Chung’s team finished in fourth place after dominating on speed responses to fact-based questions about LGBTQ issues, key figures, and terminology. Though their team did not fare as well in the overall scoring, Rossella Santagata was a whiz at the language recognition task and Judith Sandholtz was the team’s highest scorer on the basketball-free-throws-while-blindfolded challenge. Several days after the games, Judith Sandholtz (who in 20 years of taking reusable bags to Trader Joe’s has never won their raffle) was shocked to learn that she won the top raffle prize in the Anteater Equity Games: a $50 certificate to the UCI Bookstore. If you missed out on this year’s fun, there is always next year!
